Botox® & Fillers

botox injection

• BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX® Cosmetic may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

For more information, please visit: www.Botoxcosmetic.com

• Restylane®

Restylane® is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. It is a clear, synthetic gel made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It carries little risk of allergic reaction. The most common areas for treatment are the lips, the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane remains in your skin for many months.

For more information, please visit: www.restylaneusa.com

• Radiesse™

Radiesse is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body's natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries little risk of allergic reaction (unlike collagen) - just one of its advantages over alternative treatments. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the body; the most commonly treated are the lips, nasolabial folds, peri-oral lines, depressed scars and oral commissures.

Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for months or years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.

For more information, please visit: www.radiesse.com

• Juvéderm

Juvéderm is an injectable gel that gently reverses many signs of aging in the face, including fine lines and wrinkles, crow's feet, thinning lips and loosening skin. It can also "plump up" the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is non-animal-based and highly biocompatible, no pre-treatment testing is needed. Juvéderm comes in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results last about 6-9 months and can be made to last even longer with a simple follow-up treatment a few weeks after the initial injection.

For more information, please visit: www.juvederm.com

• Perlane®

Perlane, like  Restylane is a dermal filler and is a long-lasting gel that, once injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle, lifts and adds volume and help diminsh fine lines. Made of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid, it is a completely safe treatment. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane simply supplements the body's age-depleted hyaluronic acid to plump-up the lip or to raise the skin and 'fill in' the particular wrinkle being treated.

The difference between Restylane and Perlane is the size of the particle (with Perlane containing more hyaluronic acid). This means that Perlane does a better job of filling deep lines while Restylane is used in fine lines or in thin skinned people.

This product will last between six and nine months, although individuals will have varied results.

Perlane is an excellent treatment for wrinkle correction, lip enhancement, smile lines and deep folds.

Chemical Peels

What is a chemical peel?

A beauty treatment that uses a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of skin on the face to reveal smooth new skin without lines or wrinkles Peels are used to treat uneven skin tone and texture, reverse signs of aging, and reduce or eliminate melasma (discoloration), acne scarring and breakouts. A chemical peel can be used on the face, back, hands and chest. A chemical peel will take less than 30 minutes and should be completed 1-3 weeks apart depending on your skin sensitivity. 6-8 treatments will deliver excellent results. You may notice a mild tingling during the peel, and little redness after which will subside the next day. You may experience some flaking for a few days and you should wear sunscreen and moisturize the skin.

Laser Treatments (Laser Hair Removal)

laser treatment

• Introducing the Candela GentleLase® Laser…

Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of cosmetic medical procedures, including treatment of facial and leg veins, age spots and rejuvenating the skin on the face. The GentleLase® System, a revolutionary long-pulse, high-energy alexandrite laser, emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle, leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. The skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device, where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin, cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased comfort.

Conditions that can be treated by the GentleLase®

Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams, provide only temporary relief. Until now, the only recognized way to remove hair permanently has been by electrolysis - which can be tedious, time-consuming and uncomfortable. The GentleLase® System safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structure of the skin.

What a treatment includes

Depending on the amount of hair treated, the procedure varies from patient to patient. Generally, the treatment will include wearing safety eyewear to protect the practitioner's and patient's eyes from the laser light during the procedure. A small handpiece will be used that touches the skin to deliver the laser light. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse. A test area will be done prior to the entire treatment.

Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device. The degree of discomfort varies with each person, depending on his/her pain threshold. Topical anesthesia can also be requested based on individual preference or tolerances. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner in advance of the laser treatment. The treated area may become pink or red within 30 minutes of treatment; this may last from a few hours to several days and is relieved with the application of ice or cooling gels.

Precautions that should be taken before and after treatment

Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment or until your practitioner allows it. You must avoid electrolysis, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment. If you have had a history of perioral herpes, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. If you have a dark skin type, bleaching cream may be started 4-6 weeks before treatment to optimize results. You should discuss your desired results and the improvements you expect to achieve with your practitioner. Together you can decide if your expectations will be met and if this laser treatment is the best option.

Number of treatments needed

Hair grows in cycles. The number of treatments required depends on your skin color and the coarseness of the hair. Everyone will require at least four treatments as the process is only effective on hair during the early growing cycle. Repeat sessions will be necessary to treat these follicles when they reenter the early growth phase. Again, to achieve ideal results 4 or five treatments may be needed conducted four to six weeks apart.

• Pulse Dye Laser

What is a Pulse Dye Laser?

Pulse Dye Lasers deliver an intense but gentle burst of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by specific blood vessels or melanin pigmented areas in the dermis depending on the condition being treated. Factors such as the age, color and type of lesions, as well as the location on the body, all determine whether lesions can be removed.

What is the procedure for being treated with a Pulse Dye Laser?

Your practitioner will ensure you are as comfortable as possible; most patients are reclined or lying down depending on the area being treated. Both the patient and the practitioner will be wearing protective eyewear. When treatment begins, the laser will be calibrated and parameters will be set based on the specific condition being treated, each condition and each individual is unique and these settings maximize the results you will see following treatment.

Are there any requirements for treatment– how do I know if I qualify for treatment?

The only requirement is that you have a desire to improve the condition of your skin. Most patients who receive cosmetic laser treatment opt for procedures to correct skin conditions not out of medical necessity, but because they are interested in improving the appearance of their skin without invasive surgery that would cause downtime away from daily activities. From total facial rejuvenation which involves the reduction and removal of red and brown pigmented lesions with a general firming of the skin, to the removal of sun-spot damage, patients should discuss with their practitioner which treatments are right for them.

Does it hurt?

No anesthetics are required, but they may be used. The feeling most patients report is a warming or tingling sensation during treatment. The skin being treated is additionally protected by Candela’s dynamic cooling method, DCD, which delivers a cooling mist on to the skin before the laser pulse is emitted. This cooling mist increases comfort during treatment, as well as protects the skin to minimize side effects like redness.

Is Pulse Dye Laser treatment safe?

Yes. In fact, treatment is so safe that it has been successfully used since the 1980’s for the treatment of port wine stain birthmarks in infants and young children. During treatment, the epidermis is protected by Candela’s exclusive dynamic cooling method, DCD, which sprays a cooling mist onto the targeted area of skin before each laser pulse, maximizing comfort and protecting the skin during treatment.

Are the results of Pulse Dye Laser treatment permanent?

Permanency of results depends on many factors, like the condition being treated, or lifestyle of the patient. For example, if a patient has sun spots removed, and continues to spend time in the sun without adequate skin protection, it is likely that the sun spots will return. Talk with your practitioner about your goals and expectations for treatment.

How soon will I see results of my treatment?

Most patients notice beneficial results right away, and often times feel a firming or tightening of the treated area. The results of laser therapy vary depending on the condition that is being treated and the number of treatments required for clearance.

What are the side effects of treatment?

Some patients experience redness or mild swelling in the treated area immediately following treatment, this usually goes away in a few hours. Occasionally purpura, a laser bruise, may occur. Purpura is transient and usually disappears in three to five days.

Are there any special precautions I need to take before or after treatment?

It is recommended to avoid sun exposure before and throughout treatment to maximize results. A sunblock of SPF 30 or higher should be worn daily during this time. Post treatment care guidelines depend on the condition treated, and should be discussed with you practitioner.

Is Pulse Dye Laser treatment covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic and aesthetic Procedures. Some carriers will, however, cover the treatment of disfiguring birthmarks such as hemangiomas or port wine stains. In addition, the treatment of psoriasis and rosacea may be covered by some insurance companies. Please consult your insurance carrier for more details.

How much does Pulse Dye Laser treatment cost?

Cost depends on the size of the area being treated as well as the condition being treated; talk with your practitioner to learn more about treatment fees.

What should be expected during the treatment?

Fraxel Re:Pair™ is performed in our office with a topical anesthetic cream that is applied before the procedure begins and local anesthetic injections. There is mild pain associated with the procedure - most patients say they feel heat similar to sunburn.

What should be expected after the treatment?

Immediately following treatment, you will have a moderate degree redness and swelling. Over the next 2-4 days there will be mild crusting, swelling and redness that will limit social and work activities. After about 3- 4 days, you will feel comfortable applying makeup to cover mild redness that gradually fades over about 1 to 2 weeks.

Soon after treatment, the surface of the skin will feel softer, look brighter and show a more even tone. Skin tightening and wrinkle improvement will be observed over the next 2-6 months.

Acne Treatment

Acne can be unattractive. It can also cause permanent scarring and emotional distress. Fortunately, several treatment options are available. Most acne patients try a variety of over the counter acne remedies before seeking real medical help. Unfortunately, this delay in effective treatment can cause significant scarring. We can help control and treat your acne problems. Acne scarring can be treated in a variety of ways including certain skin care products, prescription medications, chemical peels, laser or pulse light treatments, soft tissue fillers, and microdermabrasion.

We develop an individualized, custom acne treatment that's just right for you.

• DermaSweep Microdermabrasion (Available at our Sparks Office)

Microdermabrasion is a skin-revitalizing treatment that helps repair skin that is damaged from the sun, scars, acne and the unwanted effects of aging. A trained professional uses gentle abrasion with suction to remove (or peel) the dead, outer layer of skin in order to stimulate and reveal new healthy skin underneath. DermaSweep offers the latest innovations in particle-free microdermabrasion and revolutionary patent-pending treatment bristle tips for tailored and optimal results.

What is skin resurfacing or skin rejuvenation?

Answer: Skin resurfacing and skin rejuvenation are terms commonly used to describe microdermabrasion (see above). There are different methods of skin resurfacing ranging from sand blasting to chemical peels. DermaSweep eliminates the discomfort of sand blasting and utilizes particle-free technology.

How does DermaSweep work?

Answer: DermaSweep features a closed system with a variable level vacuum pump that gently lifts the skin surface as the device "sweeps away" the dead layer of skin in a precise and controlled manner. The skin is left smoother as the vacuum action of the wand stimulates blood flow and cleans the pores. The increased blood flow encourages collagen formation thus firming and toning the epidermis.

Using the Epi-Infusion option, skin specific solutions can be directly applied to the skin leaving patients with fresher-feeling and better-looking skin.

DermaSweep's patent-pending treatment tips are available in up to 9 combinations for comfort and precise results.

Selecting the appropriate tip, infusion solution and adjustable vacuum pressure delivers safe, controlled and optimal results.

What skin conditions does DermaSweep treat?

Answer: Most everyone can enjoy the DermaSweep’s rejuvenation benefits. Typical conditions include:

Is DermaSweep safe?

Answer: Absolutely. Every DermaSweep professional is trained and certified. Carefully following our treatment protocol, DermaSweep treatments are one of the safest, lowest-risk, age defying procedures available.

Add a DermaSweep’s Epi-Infusion to your treatment!

Answer: DermaSweep Epi-Infusion treatments combine exfoliation with the delivery of skin specific topical solutions, leaving patients with fresher feeling and better looking skin.

DermaSweep’s topical solutions are formulated to treat specific dermatological conditions. The solution is applied under vacuum pressure at the same time the system exfoliates the epidermis.

An effective treatment is tailored to each patient's unique skincare needs.

The following is a short list of topical solutions and skin conditions that can be addressed with the Epi-Infusion wand:

Is the treatment painful or come with side effects?

Answer: The treatment is painless.

You may feel mild tightening or tingling after exfoliation but the skin will be quite smooth. The moisture of any topical treatment will leave your skin with a cool, refreshed feeling.

An anti-oxidant enriched sunscreen is essential to use afterwards since the exfoliated skin has temporarily lost some of its natural protection to the environment. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure for a few days.

What will my skin look after treatment?

Answer: Your skin will be instantly smoother and you will notice a vibrant glow after the first treatment. Hyper-pigmentation, acne scars, fine lines, and stretch-marks will lessen gradually over a series of microdermabrasion treatments.

When will I see results?

Answer: Your skin will have a warm, pinkish glow that may last up to 30 minutes. Your post treatment care is simple and easy and will be explained by your specialist.

How long will the results last?

Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments spaced over 10 days to two weeks apart, supported by a daily post treatment routine.

If you’re undergoing microdermabrasion in combination with laser skin rejuvenation (photorejuvenation or chemical peels), then the results will last much longer.

Will I miss work or need to stay indoors?

Answer: The DermaSweep treatment can be done during a normally scheduled office visit and in most cases you can return to your normal activities.

However, it is advisable to avoid direct sun exposure for at least a few days after your treatment.

What will I do after the treatment?

Answer: A home skincare regime will be recommended to maintain the results of your treatment.

• DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing Treatment (Available in Our Bel Air Office)

What is Skin Resurfacing?

Skin Resurfacing can reduce the effects of aging on our skin. Years of sun exposure and the aging process take their toll on the skin, creating lines, wrinkles, and changes in texture and color. Not only is the face a likely victim of these changes, but the neck, chest, cleavage, arms and hands may be affected as well.

Skin Resurfacing is a treatment that improves wrinkles, skin texture and color by removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it more supple and vibrant. Skin Resurfacing also stimulates the elastic tissue beneath the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance. Skin Resurfacing treatments are normally administered by a trained clinician, nurse, aesthetician, or physician. A wonderful alternative or compliment to chemical peels, the DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing treatment is non-invasive, pain-free and requires no down time after treatment.

The length of the treatment and number of treatments vary depending on skin type and condition. Results are gradual but highly effective. Most people experience softer, smoother skin after their first treatment.

The DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing System: A Better Way to Healthier Skin. DiamondTome Wands are:

Who Can Benefit?

Skin care is important. DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing offers benefits to anyone who wants to improve specific skin conditions and rejuvenate the overall health and appearance of their skin.

Ideal for a special event or as a program for overall skin rejuvenation, this treatment is non-invasive, painless and requires no downtime from work or social activities. Normal activities may be resumed immediately after treatment. Your skin is free of redness, irritation and particle contamination.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the standard treatment for varicose and spider veins. A special sclerosing solution is injected into the diseased vein, which then collapses and is gradually absorbed by the body. By the end of the treatment program, the veins are less visible on the skin surface. Sclerotherapy usually also relieves symptoms associated with enlarged veins and prevents further complications. A minimum of two to three treatments is usually needed.

Spa Services

Waxing

wax treatment

Waxing is a temporary method of hair removal, which removes the hair from the root. New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet.

What is a Facial?

facial treatment

A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear, well-hydrated skin. A facial involves a few basic steps: cleansing, skin analysis, where the esthetician puts eye pads over your eyes and looks at your skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp. Exfoliation is next, usually while a steam vapor is directed at your face. Next is extraction of blackheads if you want it and it's suitable for your skin type. (It can cause broken capillaries.) A facial massage will relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles. A mask targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature.) An application of toners and protective creams and advice on home skin care.

We offer:

Mini Facial - Express treatment for those whose time is of the essence. We customize your facial according to your skin type and condition. Includes cleansing, exfoliation, steam, masque, and a wonderful aromatic neck and shoulder massage. (Extractions not available with mini-facial).

European - This is a relaxing treatment to improve appearance of the skin. Our deep pore cleansing includes a steaming to rid the skin of impurities and toxins, a soothing face and neck massage, and an application of masks to treat your skin type. Our facials leave the skin exceptionally clean and refreshed.

Acne Facial - This is a deep cleansing which removes harmful oils and bacteria from the skin in a way daily cleaning cannot. Exfoliation which removes dead skin cells, leaving the face looking fresher and brighter, and can reduce the secretion of oil in the skin, which can be a primary cause for acne outbreaks. Steam that purifies and helps to detoxify the skin, as well as improving circulation. Extraction which is the removal of blackheads, whiteheads, and other acne driven impurities in the skin in a way that does not leave scarring.

Back Facial - We custom design your back facial for you! If you want to address breakouts on your back, we custom formulate a treatment to help clear and smooth this hard-to-reach area. Extractions are included if necessary. Or if you just feel you would like some extra cleansing, exfoliation and softening for the skin on your back after too much sun or hard work, we can do that too! First your back, shoulders, and upper arms are deep cleansed and polished; we follow with an aromatic stress-relief massage and masque.
